Give the Gift Knowledge: Help to get the Uninsured Insured this Holiday Season

With this holiday season upon us, I’m in the giving spirit and wanted to give the gift of good news about how wonderful the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the new Health Insurance Marketplace has been for all of us. Make your holiday season one to remember and #spreadtheword

Good news #1 to share: Less Americans Uninsured! The ACA was designed to get more Americans access to affordable insurance – and it has been successful. The uninsured rate has gone down by 25% which is somewhere between 8 and 11 million people! And for those states that chose to expand Medicaid, those drops in the uninsured rates are even higher!

Good news #2 to share: More Affordable Health Care! The Marketplace, for a large majority, has served to provide millions of Americans with affordable insurance. Of the 7.3 million that signed up through the Marketplace, 85% received federal subsidies.

Good news #3 to share: Healthier Young People! Studies show that it looks like the ACA is helping to improve overall health outcomes. The best, current data shows improved health for young adults, who, because of the ACA, are more likely to be insured and thus are more likely to report “excellent health.”

Check out this article to get more info on these awesome benefits of the ACA.

Goods news to share #4: Greater Coverage for the LGBT Community! Another amazing impact the ACA has made is on helping the LGBT community get access to health insurance. The uninsured rate for LGBT people with incomes less than 400% of the FPL has decreased from 34% the 26%.

Check out this article for more info on the impact the ACA has had on the LGBT community.

Clearly, the ACA has done some amazing things for our country and helped to push us forward to a more inclusive, affordable health care system for all. But, there is still work to do! Do your part this holiday season and spread the gift of knowledge of the good the ACA has done and how more people can #getcovered.

Wishing everyone a healthy and safe holiday season! (67 days until enrollment closes!!)
