ACA & Women, ACA in Wisconsin, ACA: Basics

Shout-out to the ACA – Happy Birthday Edition

The ACA is officially 5 years old, so I thought I would take the time to look back on all the good the ACA has brought!

#1) The ACA has helped get more than 16.4 MILLION people insured

#2) Being a woman is no longer a pre-existing condition (ban of denying a person insurance based on pre-existing conditions)

#3) Many people that were already insured before the ACA now pay less for their insurance and have more protections

#4) Greater focus on preventive care, saving everyone $$$

#5) Nearly 12 million new jobs have been created since the law was passed AKA this law has been extremely good for our economy

#6) Young adults can stay insured on their parents’ plans until the age of 26

#7) Medicaid has been expanded in about have of the country (room to improve, but definitely better than before!)

This is definitely not an exhaustive list, but just goes to show the ACA has brought so much good to our country. President Obama said it best in this statement for the anniversary of the ACA:

“The Affordable Care Act has been the subject of more scrutiny, more rumor, more attempts to dismantle and undermine it than just about any law in recent history.  But five years later, it is succeeding – in fact, it’s working better than even many of its supporters expected.  It’s time to embrace reality.  Instead of trying yet again to repeal the Affordable Care Act and allowing special interests to write their own rules, we should work together to keep improving our healthcare system for everybody.  Instead of kicking millions off their insurance and doubling the number of uninsured Americans, as the House Republican budget would do, we should work together to make sure every American has a chance to get covered.”

Here’s to another 5 years with a law that helped so many to attain affordable, accessible insurance for themselves and their families.
